Inventing as an adult is a whole lot like playing with toys as a kid. A kid will take 2 or 3 toys and don’t appear to have anything to do with each other and put them together. They’ll use them in unexpected and new ways, and that’s exactly how innovation works. As an adult, you say, well, I could use this part from this field, this part from this field and do the following thing with it. And you’ve mixed different disciplines together in order to come up with something amazing and new. It’s no different than what your five year old does, except that you get paid for it and the five year old doesn’t catch you next time.
